Cash Flow Ideas???

Does anyone know what is the best way to carry cash in the UK? What about tipping...

  1. I've been told 10% tip, although the friendly waiters I've met in Derby swear the bill already has tip factored in. As far as cash goes, withdrawing from ATM's as needed with your debit card works well (I think I heard someone mentioning this to you at church recently). If you pay for something with a credit card, be prepared to tell the person that you're American and your card doesn't have the PIN chip. Most of the time it's not a problem, but some grocery stores (Tesco) will make checkout a little longer.

If you've got a phone that has capability to do international calling, you can just buy a "pay as you go" card from a grocery store or cell phone outlet (our company uses Orange). It's relatively economical, easy to recharge, and probably less expensive than using your US cell phone plan.
